62 - Justice

Have you ever been in the presence of someone who just rubs you wrong even though they've never said a word to you?  Something about their energy; it's strong and negative and just collides into you.  That is my neighbor, 4 doors down.

While I'm the first to admit that my neighborhood is at the low end of the Mandarin scale, we've never had problems here in the 13 years I've lived here.  Everyone is either nice or keeps to themselves.  Then 18 months or so ago, this yah-hoo moved in to a townhouse at the other end of this building.  From day one, that negative energy was like a neon billboard to me.  I went out of my way to avoid him, and to this day have not spoken to the man.

In August, I was working from home one day when EMT's drove up into the cul-de-sac.  I look out the door and see it's some skinny woman that I've seen at the Idiot's place.  My next door neighbor is already outside, and she tells me that he was beating on his girlfriend.  The cops came, and they did eventually take him away.  I don't remember how long he was gone, but you could feel the atmosphere around our cul-de-sac change.  But, he was released; she dropped the charges.

Then on Sept. 15th, I went out front to get the bike ready to go to rehearsal, and my next door neighbor got home.  I had noticed that the Idiot was talking to another neighbor (one who lives right next door to him) when I first went out, but I couldn't hear what he was saying.  She escaped inside, then I hear him saying nasty things to my neighbor.  After 3 or 4 statements, she finally turned around to him and said, "Are you talking to me?"  I refuse to repeat what he said, but it was vulgar.  I went on to rehearsal, but when I got home, she came back out to tell me the rest of the story ....

Seems that he didn't let up.  And when her boyfriend (who used to live here and is one of the nicest guys I've ever met) came by, the Idiot lit into him as well.  Actually, she said that most of the neighbors were out of their homes by then.  The Idiot was getting into everyone's face, and actually pushed Jeff.  (Boyfriend, who used to live next door.)  Jeff evidently didn't back off much, and the Idiot went into his house and brought out a 3 foot sword.  No, I don't mis-type ... a sword!  As he was coming at Jeff, Jeff was on the phone with 911 telling them what was going on.  The Idiot isn't too stupid because he put the sword back inside before the cops got there.

It's now over 2 weeks later and fortunately, he's still in jail.  My next door neighbor had her hearing today as she filed a restraining order against him.  The judge was favorable to her throughout the entire thing, and granted the restraining order.  The Idiot cannot come within 500 feet of her, which means he cannot enter his home.  The judge went so far as to tell him he needs to find a new place to live.  (He is the only renter in our building.)  2 of my other neighbors still have their hearings against him, as does Jeff.

I check the JSO Inmate Search almost daily to make sure he's still incarcerated.  He's being held on 3 counts:  Battery/Simple;  Assault/Agg/ with a deadly weapon without intent to kill;  Lewd and Lascivious behavior.  All of these have a status of "awaiting trial" and from what I understand, the aggravated assault charge will keep him from being out on bond.

While I am very, very grateful the judge granted the restraining order, I told my neighbor that I don't put it past someone like him to return to do property damage.  She also has her motorcycle out front, and we've both stated we will tuck the bikes away when he is released.

I know - the positive.  The positive is that the judge could see right through his lies and told him he has to move.  Trust me, I think we'll have a block party when the Idiot moves.  This is definitely a step in the right direction.

Off to rehearsal.

My numbering got mixed up.  I doubled up day 59, so had to skip 61.  :-)

60 - A Working Dog

Since I'm out most nights now and my developer who isn't too keen about dogs is on materinty leave, Diva is going to the office with me most days.  Today, we had our department meeting with the boss.  Usually we go over to the corporate building, but today, he came to see us out in the Clubhouse.  This was doubly good - not only did we not have to walk over to Corporate, Diva insisted on making me play tug with her throughout the meeting.  The boss thought it was funny.  He often makes comments such as, "Well at least you brought someone to work who will actually work."  What a smart ass sometimes.  :-)

I know the squeeker's in here somewhere!

Destroyed the squeeker, now back to my bone.

Come on, Mom.  PLAY!  Stop taking pictures.

59 - I Went To Rehearsal ...

... but no one was there.  I checked my phone and there was a voicemail from the director saying no rehearsal until Thursday at the earliest as they were still laying the new carpet at the theatre.  Oh well.  After the way work is going, a motorcycle ride was in order anyway.  And with us getting our first breath of Fall,  it was a very nice ride.  Even got cold going through a couple of chilly pockets on the way home.

Stopped at the top of the Intracoastal Bridge to take my sunglasses off, and yes, to snap a couple of pics on my phone.

59 - Smells Good

Sometimes, the positive of the day is that it's over.  That's pretty much how today was.  However, bowling 41 pins over my average in game 2 was good, as was watching one of my teammates bowl a 177.  She made some changes to her approach before starting that last game, and opened up with a turkey.  Good for her!!!

But then there was a surprise when I got home.  I completely forgot that I'd put a roast in the crock pot before I left ....

58 - Just a Day

Dishes are done; laudry is done and folded.  Don't like the thought that the week starts again tomorrow.  I vote for 3 day weekends since I already put in the 10 hour days.

When you need a smile or laugh, just go to http://icanhascheezburger.com/ and laugh at the cats and captions.  Never fails for me!

Wishing everyone a safe and productive week ahead.

57 - Saturday in the Art

Riverside Arts Market on Saturday, my sista performed in the afternoon. For the first time in over 20 years, she was backed by other musicians, a bass player and drummer. Andy would periodically jump in with some lead guitar riffs.  Ohmaya joined TC on violin for 3 songs.  Really added a different dimension to the songs.

Typically, it’s not too bad at the stage under the bridge as there’s a breeze off the water. Yesterday, though, it was HOT and there was no breeze. Watching TC and the boys, you’d never know the heat was the temperature as their sets were smoking hot! A great mix of original material and cover songs, I know the audience and people on that end of the Arts Market were enjoying the music.

Every time I’m there, there seems to be young kids running and playing in front of the stage. They’re always fun to watch. This time, along with the kids, were a couple people fishing off the seawall behind TC. One lady, not only was she catching fish, but she was bopping to the music as well.

Afterwards, 10 of us went to The Brick for an early dinner and celebration of TC’s gig. BW and AG came. It was so great to spend time with them again. They’re really wonderful people. Got to see my ‘bro’, TC’s brother, and damn, he’s looking good!

TC has amazing talent. Great time at her gig.

56 - Pippin... WOW!!

Wow. First time I saw the show 2 weeks ago at Players By The Sea, I said “wow”. And last night, it was a double-“wow”. With a cast of over 15 and scenes where all of them are on stage at the same time, you can’t see it all in one viewing. Plus, there were some darker themes that I didn’t fully catch the first time around.

This was the first time I’d seen Pippin on stage. From what friends had said, most other versions were more ‘symbolic’ of the plot where as this one was more direct. As many of the cast members posted – this is not your momma’s Pippin! It’s raw, gutsy and sexy.

More than anything for me, though, was the dance. Hard to believe it was almost 40 years ago when I watched West Side Story on tv and knew inside that I wanted to do that. I watched this incredibly talented group last night and am still thinking – I want to do that!!

But the icing on the cake for me was watching my friends perform (4 of them in this show) and knowing that I’m now a part of the Jacksonville theatre community. One day I’ll find the words to express what that means ….. and maybe one day I will be able to dance like that.
